Mountaineers!!! Welcome to a new season!!!

Okay! Enough of this bullshit. I'm going Saturday (4/14/2001). Mt. Major. Anybody wants to go, drop me a line, you know the address.

Also, I plan to post a follow-up to the hikes, including any pictures taken. Links to these hikes will be located at the bottom of this page.

Weather for the Alton, NH, Region

Mt. Major (1729 ft.)

What can I say? We've all climbed it before. I've hiked it in every month of the year, January being the worst. Layers and a windbreaker would be my strongest advice. Obviously good boots. Given the snow we've had (provided that it doesn't all melt in the next couple of weeks), the decent should be a blast. The first time I hiked MM in the Winter, it wound up being the coldest day of the year. The temps were in the low teens, and the wind at the summit was around 70 mph (based on figures taken at Gunstock, a short distance away). Thought I would surely freeze to death until I broke down and put my down jacket on. Nothing quite like a winter hike. Your driving gloves are Not Satisfactory for this sort of thing! Feel free to e-mail with any questions and/or to RSVP. Also, check the acompanying links from the start page for more info on Winter hiking.
